K'gari to Gold: Episode 1 - All 4 Adventure

THIS WEEK ON ALL 4 ADVENTURE…

Jase and Simon are back… and Jesse too, and this time they’re taking on K’gari (Fraser Island), the world’s largest sand island! They’re not just sightseeing though, they’ve got a mission: to explore the island’s rugged beauty and diverse wildlife while putting their gear to the test.

Getting their first taste of sand driving for the season, Jesse takes the lead, scouting a safe path along the beach. They’re leapfrogging sections of the beach, a delicate dance with the waves as they try to avoid getting swamped. But the tide is relentless, and the sun’s sinking fast. Time for a crucial decision: risk pushing forward or heed the advice of the locals?

Morning brings a low tide and a renewed push north. The beach stretches out like a sandy highway, but there are still obstacles to overcome on their route to Sandy Cape, the northernmost tip of the island. And Indian Head? Forget about going around the ocean side, they’ll have to cut up through the headland.

Jesse, with his nimble, trailer-less truck, tackles the track first. Hard base, time to give it the berries! He navigates the sandy climbs and dips with ease, enjoying the spectacular views along the way. But will Jase and Simon, hauling their gear, have the same luck?

The final hurdle looms: Ngkala Rocks. The track is sludgy, with water pooling at the bottom. The pressure’s on, especially with an audience watching their every move.

Jase steps up for his turn, the trailer putting his driving skills to the test. Simon follows, camper in tow, hoping to mimic Jase’s success. But disaster strikes! Simon’s camper gets jammed on its draw bar. It’s winch time! Meanwhile, Jesse’s distracted by the local wildlife – classic Jesse!

One more challenging dune climb awaits. Jase, ever the adventurer, gets a bit too enthusiastic and finds himself caught up on the rocks. Time to air down those tires even further. As the sun dips below the horizon, they set up camp, marvelling at the sheer size of the island. It’s so vast, it can take days to cross!

After days of gazing at the inviting waters, Simon’s ready to get out on the waves. They launch their new boat, the Sea Jay Velocity, and it’s not long before they’re reeling the fish in. Jesse casts his line right into a school of mack tuna and reels in his first after watching Jase’s technique.

But the adventure doesn’t stop there. Jesse’s keen to explore more, and a hike to the iconic Sandy Cape Lighthouse is the perfect opportunity. They marvel at the historic structure of steel, a testament to human ingenuity and perseverance.

Morning arrives, and it’s time to retrace their steps. Sand dunes, headlands, and the trusty leapfrog technique guide their journey back. But along the way, they encounter a stranded ambulance driver in dire need of assistance. With only one wheel nut left, he’s lucky to have crossed paths with Jase and Simon. They quickly jack up the ambulance and get him back on the move with a patient in back.

Next on their itinerary is a visit to the island’s western side, where an old timber camp awaits. They stumble upon a rusted-out 4WD outside a dilapidated toolshed, a relic of bygone days. The old humpies perched on the hill give them an eerie feeling. Not keen for a camp here, boys? Might be time to move on!

They’ve got a barge to catch to head back to the mainland for the rest of their adventure from K’gari to Gold!
