THIS WEEK ON ALL 4 ADVENTURE…
After an amazing trek down the Carson River Track, Jase, Simon and mate Jesse are headed back towards Queensland. The plan is to meet up with Zac, Cissy & Jimmy, Rangers from Burketown who have a secret spot on a river system that the boys haven’t fished before.
Despite all the rain, it’s a dusty drive down a corrugated road. Bull dust turns to sand, and Jesse knows they should probably get out to let their tyres down. But so late in the day, they all just want to keep moving. Will this be a decision they regret?
Camp is truly a riverside paradise, and if the fishing is as good as the view, it’s going to be a great time! Queenfish and mangrove jacks are on the bite, but Jesse bags the first barra making Simon bitter. Jase snags a couple of good ones too. But their goal was to get some bait fish for the rangers’ crab pots, so they can’t stay out here all day. The fishing competition continues as the crab pots go in the water, but they’ll have to wait until morning to see who catches the most keepable crustaceans.
Jase cooks up a tasty quesadilla for supper with a recipe courtesy of his daughter. (Keen to get your hands on that knife roll of his? They’re coming to the Campboss webstore soon. Fill out this form to be notified when we have more details!)
The Crab Competition results are in, and they’re not great. Only females caught overnight, so the boys head out to fish a nearby river system, and the rivalry continues with the rods. With barra on the bite, they’re all winners. But the tide is what decides the quitting time, so they make their way back to camp with more to explore tomorrow.
The Rangers have departed with first light to take care of some work they need to do, but they’ve left a mud map for the boys to find an old outstation hidden somewhere along the sandy track. Despite lowering the tyres this time, there’s still some digging and recovering in their future.
With faith in Zac’s mud map, they eventually find a track off to the right with a windmill up ahead and a water tower begging to be climbed… according to Jase. These historic sites like this are a treat to explore and imagine how they might have been back in their heyday.
But they have to go set up their own place to call home for tonight and give Jesse a chance to gloat about his fishing trophy. There’s always next time, Simon!
