THIS WEEK ON ALL 4 ADVENTURE…
Jase and Simon and their mate Kiel are starting out in Corinna, Tasmania. This area was thriving with gold hunters back in the day, but these boys are on the hunt for the mouth of the Pieman River with some gnarly 4wding to get them there. That’s gold!
Once they’ve crossed on the ferry with their extra long loads, they hit some sinking sand. Using all the tricks in the book, they are determined to get through this fluffy sand. The double snatch and Maxtrax get Jase’s heavy vehicle up and out. But Simon still has to make it through the bottomless wet sand as the fun is going down.
After a cold and windy night, they move on to Duck Creek. Tasmanian wet season leaves them some challenging puddles to fjord. Boulders and tidal surge mean that timing is key to getting through.
The southern ocean churns up a bubble-bath beach, and Simon nearly goes for a dip. Thoroughly chilled, the boys move on to the next crossing. But the real challenge is the rutted out exit from the beach. Kiel makes it up halfway to make a winchpoint for the towing vehicles. Jase’s trailer gets hooked up and pulls Kiel back through the wet sand. Thank goodness for little trees.
The speccy coastline is worth the trouble to get to Pieman Heads. Jase makes up an Oreo Cheesecake for dessert, and they get to set up camp.
An overland track back through was meant to be easier, but there’s even more carnage going out as Simon rolls a tyre off the rim. A bit of WD-40 and the air compressor does the trick.
Big crossings, mud, water and wash-outs ahead. It feels like Antarctica, but it’s Tasmanian winter. No one is going to be complaining about the heat in the Cape again!
