The Red Coast: Episode 10

THIS WEEK ON ALL 4 ADVENTURE…

Jase and Simon are heading out of Borroloola with their mate Stew. They’ve gotten permission from the Traditional Owners to visit a secret hot-spring-fed waterfall. First stop is to check out the pens of mustered buffalo that live on the flood plains of this outback cattle station.

As they move on, the dust gets deeper as they travel down tracks with bulldust half a metre deep. The creek crossings give a bit of a carwash, but it’s not long before Jase starts hearing a noise that makes him cringe.

Time for the bush mechanics to bring out their tools, and thankfully Jase carries just the part they need. Instead of a service pit, they’ve parked over a snake pit which keeps them on their toes and hastens the process.

While they’re stopped, they bring the rods to check out what’s happening in the nearby rock pool. They’re fishing for their lunch, but all they manage to catch are rat barra. So instead Jase cooks up a creamy potato bake right in the camp oven.

As they travel the last 2.8ks, it becomes clear that the uni rattle earlier was only a symptom of a bigger problem. Jase’s diff is stuffed, and he gets bogged in the bulldust. Simon races ahead and gets him popped out in no time with the kinetic rope before the find a place to set up camp.

The next day, they manage to make it to the old homestead despite the problems with the 200. From there, they head out on foot to the lagoon. They paddle (shovel?) their way to the hot and cold waterfalls, like two taps flowing into a crystal clear waterhole. They spend a couple of hours exploring the area and reminiscing about their epic trip to The Red Coast!
