THIS WEEK ON ALL 4 ADVENTURE…
On Mornington Island, the crew spend the day with Ranger Tommy. Some rough tracks and sandy spots lead to opportunities for pulling out the recovery gear. As the sun goes down, the set up camp at Dadagun Beach, the land of Tommy’s ancestors. Tommy shares more about his heritage and his totem, the thanbe or shovelnose shark.
The next morning, the boys scour the area known locally as Plane Wreck Beach for signs of two Douglas A-20 Havoc bombers which had emergency landings there during World War II. But it’s not just planes they’re looking for when tucker time comes around. There’s also plenty of mudcrabs around to make for a good cookup. For dessert Jase whips up a tasty pineapple coconut slice to satisfy the sweet tooth.
Later they head back to the main camp to pick up the big boat. Tommy recommends they visit Rocky Island where the booby birds are nesting. Don’t forget his sage advice: ‘Just be careful not to have your mouth open when you’re looking up.’ They also have the treat of seeing a giant sea turtle making its way back to the water. So much amazing wildlife in this part of the world. But it’s the fish that the boys are most interested in, and in no time at all, they’re all hooked up with chinaman, trout and long-nose emperor all on the bite!
THANKS AGAIN TO RANGER TOMMY AND THE PEOPLE OF MORNINGTON ISLAND!
