Jase and Simon begin their epic journey at the summit of Lizard Island in the Great Barrier Reef off Australia’s east coast. There is only time for a quick dive before they head back to the mainland. In this episode, Cyclone Zane makes the track wetter than anticipated as the guys venture up the eastern side of Cape York.
As the trees get thicker and the puddles get deeper, it’s time to scout with the buggies. Thank goodness for the snorkel! Too much water across the road means that Cape Flattery is going to have to wait for a few weeks.
The second attempt is good, and leaving the big boat behind, they are able to get through to the fishing spot. A couple of fellow travellers come by asking for assistance performing a bit of bush surgery.
With the help of Jase’s homemade ferry, they cross the river and head off in search of the secret ‘barra-filled’ billabong. Their only reward for the day is some refreshing coconut water.
Up next is a sandy and boggy drive to Bathurst Head for a spot of fishing in Princess Charlotte Bay. GTs are on the bite from the start, but the giant oysters on the shore are what’s for dinner tonight!
